A new world leading swiss partnership: Threema & Apostrophy
As Apostrophy continues to connect people through a new choice of independence, innovation and privacy, we are pleased to introduce a new brand and product partnership with Threema, the top-selling secure messenger with over 12 million users in Europe and beyond.
Threema is the messenger with rigorous data protection and rock-solid security, and as with Apostrophy, was developed with ‘Privacy by Design’ as the guiding principle.
The Apostrophy and Threema collaboration spans both the business and consumer markets, delivering secure mobile solutions not currently possible with other mobile tech offerings on the market.
The new partnership will see devices running Apostrophy’s mobile operating system coming with the Threema app pre-installed onto its secure OS environment, as well as a free software update for existing Apostrophy OS users. The integration of Threema will result in delivering unique protected propositions to users via deep system-level customisability for security and data privacy – intentionally designed, developed and operated in Switzerland for the global community.
Threema’s business apps Threema Work (SaaS) and Threema OnPrem (on-premises) can also be installed on the secure OS environment, taking data confidentiality and secure communication to the next level and opening up the enterprise sector to further advances and solutions in the secure software and hardware sphere.
Providing the alternative to an advertising-dominant data-surveillance business model prevalent in the tech sector, with an unrivalled security and data privacy–first Mobile Software Ecosystem, the Apostrophy and Threema partnership provides a more transparent and flexible choice for companies and consumers that care about data privacy and security.
The Threema Difference
Threema is more than a chat app. Threema is a statement. A statement for privacy that is deeply ingrained in Threema’s DNA. Since 2012, it has been vigorously committed to ensure that its users can communicate without having to worry about privacy and security.
Popular chat apps like WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, and Threema differ considerably in certain respects. Find out how they stack up against each other in our comprehensive messenger comparison. Here’s an overview of the most important differences.

1) Telegram: End-to-end encryption can be optionally enabled in single chats, but this feature is disabled by default and neither available in group chats nor compatible with parallel use of the service on multiple devices.
2) For example, Signal doesn’t comply with GDPR’s Articles 27 and 28.
3) WhatsApp Business isn’t intended for internal corporate communication but for the communication between small businesses and their customers.
4) There’s no transparency report specifically for WhatsApp, but parent company Meta publishes a company-wide one.
5) Signal’s transparency report seems to be grossly incomplete and/or badly out of date.
6) Telegram's regional transparency report is only accessible via the Telegram app and does, for example, not provide any results for Switzerland, which is highly dubious given the size of Telegram’s user base.
7) The CLOUD Act entitles US authorities to access data from US IT service providers (even if the data is not stored in the US).
